Heya!
I've never personally slept on grass before - or even in the outdoors for that matter now that I'm thinking about it. I'd imagine a night in a large forest would be amazing however. The un-interrupted night sky and all its stars gleaming down, the sounds of the wind wooshing through the wood, the creek water flowing by and of course a relatively serene blanket of natural silence.
I would prefer a blanket underneath me to act as a barrier between the grass and I but to each their own. One of these days I will, hopefully in the future when I move to a more wooded area than the desert that I live in haha.
Now instead of sleeping in a forest you are exploring one, and to your great surprise walking through some pines you see out in the open in a field of trees slowly awakening is a giant Husky!
You wouldn't know what to immediately do, though most I figure would run away at such a sight. Who knows what such a massive creature is capable of. Why take any chances? Woe to those who would disregard a chance to meet such a giant canine, little do they know Dudley in his waking hours the only real thing on his mind at that time is if he could just go back to sleep less Bearsdsley doesn't need him for anything.
You could just walk straight up to the Husky returning to his slumbering state and be safe. You can feel his warmth coming from his large fuzzy body and hear and even feel the gentle rise and fall of his midsection breathing in and out, and if you're lucky his cute snores. Don't be afraid to make contact, he loves affection. I know I personally would nap right up against him, who wouldn't?
Just be sure not to startle him or he might yelp super loud. Plus too a night's rest can wreak havoc on a canine's ability to curb their appeitite. Should he wake and lock eyes with you, just endure the affectionate licks he'll 'assault' you with, and don't make any comments about the slobber pooling down his muzzle as he conversates with you - or else you'll make him feel bad about his curbed instincts and you'll have a sad Dudley on your paws. Just offer to scratch his ears or even rub his belly (don't mind the grumblies) and you'll brighten him up again :D
Macro's like Dudley don't have the luxury of mattresses in the typical sense, nor a cozy blanket in which to wrap themselves in. So he'd most likely just sleep wherever he can fit. Certainly I think he would have s dedicated sleeping spot somewhere, and he'll only venture there if he isn't sleeping next to his buddy Beardsley.
I'm super happy with how this came out. I've been experimenting with different brushes, background techniques, coloring methods, and shading.
I wanted to test all this new stuff out so that I can have a better grasp on these new methods while I work on my main comic strip. I wanted to stylize the art for it more as I didn't want it to look bland or generic anymore. I want to do Polo and his fam justice, so hopefully with this new knowledge I'll be able to efficiently draw the panels better in both time and look :D
Super big thanks to
faas - he gave me advice on how to get better with backgrounds and experiment more with it. I wouldn't have found a better rhythm had it not been for it :)
Hope all is well,
Reede

Aww thank you! I'm super happy a sleepy Dudley drawing came out great, and yes I've been trying different brushes and styles! It's been hard coming from my super comfortable brushes to foreign ones that I still don't fully know.
Though it's helping me tons! I've been able to render things out in ways I've wanted to but haven't been. Thank you so much FAAS, really I wouldn't have tried if not for you :D

Being a canine of the indoors - I have never camped, nor anything like it. I wish I had the experience of snoozing away in a sleeping bag, hopefully in the future I'll be able to!
That's a very accurate way of describing it, I never once thought of that. Even if there are small rocks, they may not be too uncomfortable, and the giant Husky can even pull them out if he wanted to - he sure has the strength to do so. Though sleeping on carpet is the best to me, brings back many memories as a kid sleeping over at family's house and accidentally napping from exhaustion in the floor XD

Those kinds of stretches are the best - where you feel every fiber of your being surrending itself to the motions of the stretch and the leg kick/spasm all the while you may being yelling out loud (in Dudley's case maybe a low strained growl XD). Man in the morning never enough of those haha.
