Die kalifornische Ausnahme-Sängerin arbeitete lange als Backgroundsängerin, bevor sie einem großen Publikum durch die Talentshow "The Voice" bekannt wurde. Seit 2015 verfolgt sie ihre Solokarriere.
Judith Hill wurde 1984 als Tochter der japanischen Pianistin Michiko und des R'n'B-Bassisten und Produzenten Robert "Peewee" Hill in Los Angeles geboren. Ihre Eltern hatten sich in den Siebzigern in einer Funk-Band kennengelernt und spielen auch heute noch in Judiths Backing-Ensemble mit. Sie studierte Komposition in Kalifornien und ging nach dem Abschluss im Jahr 2007 für einige Jahre nach Frankreich, wo sie sich der Tourneeband des französischen Chansonniers Michel Polnareff anschloss.
Nach ihrer Rückkehr in die USA stand sie als Background-Sängerin mit Weltstars wie Elton John, Stevie Wonder und Josh Groban auf der Bühne. 2009 wurde sie als Sängerin für Michael Jacksons geplante Comeback-Tour "This is it" ausgewählt. Jackson verstarb noch im selben Jahr, und die Tour wurde abgesagt. Hill sang mit dem Rest der "This is it"-Crew auf der offiziellen Trauerfeier im Staples Center in Los Angeles und bekam weltweite Aufmerksamkeit, als sie "Heal the World" in Gedenken an den "King of Pop" sang.
Einige ihrer Songs wurden Teil des Spike Lee-Films "Red Hot Summer" (2012). Ihre Teilnahme in der Castingshow "The Voice" 2013 machte sie endgültig im ganzen Land bekannt. 2014 tourte sie mit John Legend. 2015 bekam der Oscar-prämierte Dokumentarfilm "20 Feet from Stardom", mit Morgan Freeman als Sprecher, einen Grammy für den besten Musikfilm - auch dank ihrer Auftritte. Der "Rolling Stone" lobte Hill für ihre "herausragenden Powerhouse-Vocals". In dieser Zeit arbeitete Hill eng mit ihrem damaligen Lebensgefährten Prince zusammen, der 2015 ihr Debütalbum "Back in Time" koproduzierte.
2018 erschien ihr Album "Golden Child", von Multi-Instrumentalistin Judith Hill selbst geschrieben, arrangiert, produziert, gemischt und veröffentlicht. Sie präsentierte das Album in einer konzeptionelle Show, die im Dezember 2018 in Los Angeles Premiere feierte. Der Erlös kam benachteiligten Jugendlichen in Los Angeles zugute.

This is one of the greatest Blues/Funk/Soul performances ever. Ever. I got all kinds of emotions going on in here. Hill is the music idol every kid should want to grow up to be. Hell, I'm a 60 year old dude and even I want to grow up to be Judith Hill someday. The voice, the instrumental virtuosity, the feel, the lived experience; this is it. This is music.

I was about to die from an overdose in my apartment in Miami all alone after so many different drugs…I went to grab my phone and I couldn’t even see what I pressed and out of no where RUclips started and this song played. My heart was beating out of my chest and then the room turned white and I felt at peace. My heart slowed down and I survived. Jesus Christ is real people. He saved my life.
Yes, staying clean is the word, I had my private hell too with abuse, lucky to say I am a very stabile person again (and found support from my family and friends)...

Was just surfing you tube looking for a good concert to watch and I came across this. Can't find the words to describe the qualities in this voice and it is amazing that the family has so much talent. Never a dull moment through the whole performance and that's what it was, a performance. Thanks for the entertainment.

Ok now pls listen to me ffs I'm 55 and I have been listening to any sort of music since I was 10...hey, I have never listened to such an incredible inspirated and perfect performance from any other musician/singer the way Judith did on singing "Give your love to someone else". She touched each single chord of my soul!
I met her once while providing service. She is classy and gracious and she was interested in the people of the city she was visiting. Beautiful on the inside and as good as she looks in media it is nothing compared to seeing her in person.
